China’s first and the world’s first museum with the theme of building steel structure and bridge steel structure opened to the public in November 2018.
China Steel Structure Museum is located in the central area of Houhai, Nanshan District, Shenzhen, covering an area of 4,468 square meters. The exhibition area is about 2,000 square meters, and it collects more than 620 pieces/sets of various collections. The key exhibits include the iron cables of Luding Bridge in Sichuan, steel components of the World Trade Center in New York, USA, rivets and cables of the Golden Gate Bridge in the United States, rivets of the Waibaidu Bridge in Shanghai, and 3D printed nodes. The exterior is based on the style of the Louvre in Paris, with a hemispherical entrance in the sunken square. The permanent exhibition is divided into five parts: Approaching Steel Structure, History of Steel Structure, Steel Structure Technology, Experiencing Steel Structure and Future of Steel Structure, which comprehensively display the development path of steel structure in the world and China, steel structure technology knowledge and future prospects of steel structure development.

China Steel Structure Museum incorporates touching stories such as the construction of Brooklyn Bridge by the Roebling family, the criticism of the Eiffel Tower before its completion, and the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge with a span of more than one kilometer into the museum, allowing visitors to be immersed in and empathize.

The museum combines cutting-edge technology and uses virtual reality technology to let you feel the extraordinary feeling of standing on the top of Shenzhen Ping An Financial Center (600 meters). There are also 3D-printed steel structure components, which not only allow you to see them with your own eyes, but also to get in close contact with them. The transparent screen plays videos and exhibits together with the real exhibits, giving you a refreshing feeling.

Here, history and technology are equally important. A total of more than 500 pieces/sets of collections have been collected, which are displayed through various means such as real objects, models, pictures, texts, and multimedia. The museum relies on multimedia interactive equipment and props to let the audience “play” steel structure designers and builders, and complete the design, manufacturing and installation process of steel structure buildings by themselves.
